The latest Kindle Paperwhite has dropped to its lowest ever price

One of the best things about Amazon’s Kindle e-readers is that they tend to last a long time. Buy one, and you can expect to last for at least five years, if not more if you take care of it. So if you would like to buy your first Kindle – or are shopping for an upgrade – now could be the perfect time, as one of the best Kindles is currently on sale for its lowest ever price.

The Kindle Paperwhite is Amazon’s bestselling Kindle, and right now it is reduced to £124.99 as part of Amazon’s Spring Deal Days sale. Amazon price tracker tool Camelcamelcamel reveals this is the lowest price this Kindle has sold for.

Usually £159.99, this Kindle is a step up from the basic Kindle Amazon also sells. The Paperwhite has better build quality, with a 7-inch glare-free screen that’s flush with the casing, a contoured back that is pleasingly ergonomic to hold, and a uniform frontlight so you can read whatever time of day it is and wherever you are.

Just note that the £124.99 sale price is for the model with lockscreen ads. If you want to avoid these pesky intrusions, go for the ad-free Paperwhite, which is on sale for £10 more at £134.99.

This version of the Paperwhite is the latest, released in 2024, and it has the fastest page turns ever on a Kindle. A tap on the screen moves you on in your book, and full touchscreen controls mean the only button here is the on/off switch.

The unit is charged up via USB-C, and the battery can last up to an incredible 12 weeks – though that’s less if you use the screen light and are always connected to Wi-Fi, as you have to be to browse the store and to download new books.

There’s peace of mind reading in the bath or pool with full waterproofing, so the Kindle should survive an accidental dunking, and the screen not only has a light but a warm light option, so you can adjust the settings so it’s a less harsh beam while you’re reading in the dark.

I still have a Kindle Paperwhite from a decade ago, and although the battery has seen better days, the device still works well enough to enjoy reading the latest novels on. On this evidence, this much more powerful Paperwhite should easily last you several happy reading years if you look after it.

As with all Kindles, you can optionally sign up to Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited, its subscription service to read unlimited books, audiobooks and magazines. Or, if you’re an Audible subscriber, you can download and listen to titles on the Kindle using wireless headphones.
