The little Greek island as pretty as Corfu – without the tourists | Travel News | Travel
Spring has fully arrived in the UK, and the promise of warmer weather is certainly on the horizon. However, for those who can’t wait to be in the summer sun, there is a perfect early summer getaway that won’t break the bank. The Greek island of Paxos, which is just an hour to two-and-a-half hours ferry ride from Corfu, is an ideal destination and less populated by tourists, which means you can enjoy the serene views of the island and the serenity that comes with it.
With Corfu only three hours and 15 minutes away from the UK, it’s a journey that’s far from taxing. There are two main reasons to visit Paxos. Firstly, even in May, the island enjoys an average temperature of 23C, perfect for achieving a sun-kissed glow without the oppressive heat that forces you indoors. Secondly, Paxos is one of the least commercialised Greek islands in the Ionian Sea. As April gives way to May, tourists begin to flock to the Greek islands. But unlike Corfu, Mykonos, Rhodes, and Santorini, Paxos remains relatively uncrowded.
In fact, on Paxos, you can stroll through the rustic streets without being overwhelmed by throngs of holidaymakers. Above all, Paxos is renowned for its stunning beaches.
The top three include Erimitis Bay, Tripitos Arch, and Kipiadi. Even though the sun will be shining brightly in May, Paxos’s quieter nature means you should have no trouble finding a spot to lay your towel.
One reviewer was effusive in their praise for Erimitis Bay Beach: “Oh my heavens, this beach is just stunning. The massive white cliffs, the white pebbles beach (lots of small pebbles so much more comfortable than many other Paxos’ beaches), the insane clear waters, and the big rocks together make one of the most stunning beaches I have ever seen. Just wow!”.
They noted that the walk down to the beach may be challenging for some, but the scenic views make it worthwhile: “Yes the walk down takes a moment but only if you’re truly well out of shape this could potential risky pose a problem. Otherwise it’s a beautiful walk with gorgeous views.”
Another reviewer raved about Tripitos Arch Beach: “A short 10-15 mins walk from Ozias along narrow rocky paths and you will be rewarded with an amazing scenic view of the turquoise sea and Tripitos.”
They recommended it as the perfect spot to watch the sunset: “Either on the rock platform above or on the top of the actual arch this is the perfect place either at sunrise or for sunset drinks. I highly recommend a trip here.”
