An incredible new train is being launched to cross 100 European cities. Nox, a Berlin-based startup, hopes to offer sleeper trains as an alternative to short-haul flights.

Many are disinterested in sleeper trains due to the price of private rooms, forcing people to share a cabin with strangers. But Nox has promised that private room tickets won’t cost more than a flight. The company is aiming to launch its first Europe-wide train by 2027, connecting cities including Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Budapest and Rome. “Sleeping while a train gets you across Europe is a great concept,” Thibault Constant, co-founder of Nox, told EuroNews.

“But today people have to share their cabins with strangers, beds are tight, and it’s often more expensive than air travel. We want to change that and make night trains an essential part of European travel.”

Constant has half a million followers on social media, known as “Simply Railway”, and has been on more than 400 sleeper train trips across the world. He says these experiences have hugely influenced the design of his trains.

The Nox sleeper has three kinds of rooms: single, double, and double vista. All categories have two-metre beds, space to stand up, and storage space for luggage.

Single rooms will start at £68 and double rooms at £127. There will be food and drink services on board as well as rooms with panoramic views.

Fellow Nox founder Janek Smalla says the room design will allow them to fit more people into trains than traditional operators can.

“This, paired with a strict focus on standardisation and operational excellence, will allow us to offer affordable fares on over 35 European routes,” he added.
