The Odyssey trailer – Matt Damon stars in Christopher Nolan’s ancient world epic | Films | Entertainment
Having finally won an Oscar for Oppenheimer, Sir Christopher Nolan’s next IMAX epic goes much further back in time than World War 2.
The acclaimed filmmaker has decided to adapt Homer’s The Odyssey, following Matt Damon’s Odysseus on his 20 years journey home after the siege of Troy.
Those familiar with the ancient Greek text will know the titular King of Ithaca travels from fantastical island to the next, with the first trailer teasing the giant cyclops and undead warriors.
Entering the world of the mythic distant past is a real change of pace for Nolan, who is best known for his cold, modernistic blockbusters.
The new film co-stars Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Circe, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus.
Some IMAX 70mm screenings sold out within the first 12 hours, when tickets were released a year in advance. Meanwhile, the film’s prologue and sizzle reel trailer is currently showing exclusively in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash in IMAX 3D now.
The Odyssey sets sail in UK cinemas on July 17, 2026.
