The Oura Ring is finally cheaper in rare end of year sale
It’s not even Christmas yet but the Boxing Day sales have already begun with some brands and retailers. Just like Black Friday has recently morphed into a month-long sales event, so too has the end of year sale now stretched to more than a week, and some of the latest tech is cheaper for it.
But if you’re on the lookout for something to spend your Christmas money on (once you have it, of course), then you won’t be complaining. Right now, the Oura Ring 4, one of the most compelling gadgets of recent time, is discounted across the board, with both the regular and ceramic versions of the smart ring on sale.
You can get up to £150 off the Oura Ring 4 when you purchase directly from Oura. It means you can get the Silver Oura Ring 4 for £249 (was £349), with other colours also discounted, including the Gold version for £349 (was £499).
This sale even includes the newer Oura Ring 4 Ceramic, which only came out in October. Usually £499, all four colours have been discounted down to £449.
Each and every Oura Ring 4 is currently cheaper than usual, with all sale prices lasting while stocks last until January 5.
I reviewed the Oura Ring 4 when it was released last year and found it a very interesting and capable smart ring tracker. It’s best for tracking general health and core vitals rather than for serious outdoor training where a sports watch is better suited.
There are a few advantages of opting for a smart ring instead of a smartwatch such as the Apple Watch or an activity tracker from the likes of Fitbit or Garmin. A ring is much subtler, even if necessarily thicker than most normal rings to fit in sensors and batteries, than a smartwatch, and doesn’t look out of place in formal attire.
In my experience, it was also easier to wear the Oura Ring for several days in a row compared to a watch because of the small form factor, which means I gathered days of uninterrupted data. This then can paint a full picture of your vitals, with the Oura app showing readiness, sleep, activity, heart rate, stress and other metrics according to how you are.

I particularly like the insights it can give through skin temperature recordings and heart rate variability, which can show if and when you are getting ill, or tell you to lay off the caffeine.
THe main thing to know about buying an Oura Ring is that you first need to receive a sizing kit. There are several numbered plastic rings in the kit, and you need to wear some for a couple of days to determine your size.
Oura recommends wearing the Ring 4 on your index finger for the best readings, but you can wear it on your middle or ring finger if you prefer. Try the plastic sizer rings overnight too, as your fingers expand when hot. You don’t want it too tight – or too loose.
You pay for the Ring upfront and get the sizing kit in the post. Once you’ve picked a size, you follow the instructions to let Oura know which size you want, and it is then mailed to you.
Don’t rush the sizing part. Exchanging rings is a huge faff.
