The pretty seaside town named as one of the best in the UK – 30 minutes from major city | Travel News | Travel
Just 30 minutes away from vibrant Edinburgh lies a pretty town that should be next on your list to visit. The town has been featured on a list by Time Out as one of the best in the UK – and it’s hardly a surprise.
This Scottish spot is home to stunning coastal views, quaint streets and a friendly atmosphere. North Berwick is the perfect place to enjoy a weekend away. It has an up and coming arts scene and it’s known for its huge range of independent shops.
Time Out says: “A swift 30 minutes train journey from Edinburgh city centre, it’s easy to see why North Berwick was recently crowned one of the best places to live in the country by the Sunday Times.
“But it’s not too shabby a place to visit, either – as a day trip from the Scottish capital or for a longer, slower break.
“Not only are the beaches bliss – vast stretches of sand are dotted with glistening rock pools and happy dogs let off the lead – the high street boasts a number of charming cafés, gift shops, art galleries and eateries.
“Don’t miss Orange Moon, a record store in the upstairs of Steampunk Coffee, and the Scottish Seabird Centre, where you can hop on a tour to Bass Rock to visit a thriving gannet colony.”
While you’re there, you should visit Tantallon Castle – a popular spot for visitors in the area.
You can ascend Tantallon’s towers for spectacular views of the Bass Rock and to watch gannets plunge into the North Sea.
Bass Rock is an island off the coast of Scotland. You can take a boat trip out towards it where you’ll be able to experience the island’s spectacular natural beauty and wildlife up close.
For birdwatchers and sightseers, this is an absolute must.
If you have a few days, you should also visit Edinburgh, known for its rich history and stunning architecture.
If you’re looking for somewhere to visit, North Berwick could be the perfect place for you.
