The pretty UK town that’s become a haven for ghost hunters | Travel News | Travel

This beautiful town in Surrey is surprisingly one of the area’s most haunted spots, with a number of spooky sightings being recorded there.

Horley, in Surrey is known for its prime location, which makes it a great commuter town. But that’s not the only point of interest drawing people to the area.

The area is also home to armies of ghosts, a phantom bell and a mischievous spirit, reports Surrey Live.

With Halloween just around the corner, Horley, reportedly one of the UK’s paranormal hotspots, will be a place where many ghost-hunters plan to visit.

Surrey is home to beautiful countryside with an impressive variation of outdoor walks, hiking routes and scenic spots to have a rest or visit a local cafe.

One of the most haunted places in Horley is The Farmhouse, which is said to have a ghostly presence dating back four centuries ago.

Not only this, but Haroldslea Drive is another spooky spot frequently visited by Surrey’s ghost hunters. This residential area is reportedly home to a very unusual ghost sighting.

The legend says King Harold’s men used to rest at Thunderfield castle, which sits at the end of Haroldslea Drive. They were stationed there before marching off to Hastings, a battle where their king would not be victorious.

Ghost spotters claim that, at sunset, a phantom bell tolls, getting louder as the night goes on. Then, at midnight, a small army of men can be seen.

The town of Horley is situated halfway between London and Brighton on the south coast.

Historically, the town is thought to have been a dense forest.

If you’re looking for things to do in the area, visit St Bartholomew’s Church, a standout landmark in the area. One guest on Tripadvisor said: “Maybe if you’re from this area, a 14th-century church is not noteworthy, but when you are visiting from the US and just happen to notice this place while walking down Brighton Road in Horley, Surrey, it is an enchanting surprise.

“If you happen to be in this charming town, perhaps on a layover at Gatwick, take a few moments to stroll through this beautiful churchyard.”

Other reportedly haunted locations in Surrey include Reigate, Betchworth, Kingston and Richmond.
