The sweet link between Harriet Sperling’s engagement ring and Queen Elizabeth II | Royal | News
The engagement ring Peter Phillips has chosen for his now fiancée, Harriet Sperling, has a longstanding connection to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Harriet can be seen wearing an exquisite diamond ring that was chosen by her husband-to-be from Pragnell, a Mayfair jeweller largely considered one of the world’s prestigious outlets for jewellery.
This is because the jeweller has longstanding connections to the royals. The jeweller has acquired companies, including Philip Antrobus, who was behind the three-carat round brilliant diamond engagement ring presented to Queen Elizabeth II upon her engagement to Prince Philip back in 1946.
Hello! Magazine’s editor, Emily Nash, said: “Peter was the late Queen’s eldest grandson and they had a very close bond, so this is a lovely connection to her own story.”
In a previous 2024 interview with Sky News Australia, Peter Phillips reflected on his “remarkable” grandmother’s passing and paid tribute to her role in his life.
He said: “She was a figurehead that had been part of everybody’s lives for as long as people could remember. Having her as a grandmother and a role model was unique.”
A photo showing Ms Sperling showing off her engagement ring as she embraces the son of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips was released to mark the news of their engagement.
A statement released on behalf of the couple on August 1st said: “Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.”
It continued: “Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.”
Earlier this summer, Peter and Harriet attended Royal Ascot in June as guests of the King and Queen and the pair took part in the traditional carriage procession.
Mr Phillips has two daughters, Savannah and Isla Phillips, from his first marriage to Autumn Phillips. They had previously married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in 2008 and divorced in 2021.
