The tiny Italian seaside village that is like stepping into a retro film | Travel News | Travel

This beautiful village in Italy will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time into the most picturesque film-like setting possible.

Cefalù is located on the northern coast of Sicily, it is about an hour away from Palermo.

The village is a charming and unique part of Italy to visit, while it’s not known for being a major tourist destination, it has an authentic feel and it’s surprising more people don’t visit.

Known for being a great place to swim and sunbathe, the area is loved by locals wanting to spend a day at the beach.

But another much loved trait of Cefalù is its rich history, it has a Norman cathedral, medieval old town and archaeology museum.

If you plan to visit, you must visit the Duomo di Cefalù, this cathedral is the number one rated thing to see in the area.

On Tripadvisor, one visitor said: “The Duomo in Cefalù really is, in my opinion, the centrepiece of the town. It towers over every other building, has a regal feel to it inside and there are fantastic views from the turrets.

“You have to pay to go up the church tower, but it wasn’t too expensive and is well worth it for the sea views in my opinion.

“The Duomo is also located next to a lovely square with lots of al fresco dining options and bars serving locally brewed draught beer. A must visit if in Cefalu.”

Another must do is to stop off at the beach – a visitor on Tripadvisor said: “This is one of the coolest places you could see in Sicily -crystal clear water and amazing food. The weather was also lovely.”

Those travelling to the area often take a day trip from Palermo which takes under an hour and will allow you to see both areas as part of the same trip.

If you’re adventurous, you can hike up La Rocca which offers great views of the coast.

Visiting in the off peak seasons will mean you’ll have Cefalù all to yourself.
