The UK cruise with four stops takes Brits to beautiful European city without the crowds | Travel News | Travel

This 1,200 passenger cruise ship takes you to one of Europe’s most underrated city destinations with almost no crowds.

The Ambition ship from Ambassador Cruise Line takes passengers along a five-day cruise, with the final destination being Antwerp in Belgium.

Antwerp is home to beautiful architecture and historic buildings, boasting a popular cathedral and a range of museums.

Ambassador Cruise Line offer tickets starting at just £499 – also stopping off at Amsterdam along the way.

Once in Antwerp, there is plenty of time to explore the scenic city centre and sample some of the local cuisine – including traditional Belgian waffles.

The city is home to some of the world’s best jewellers thanks to their history in trading diamonds that dates back to the 16th-century.

The Port of Antwerp, said to be the world’s largest port for general cargo, remains popular today. Most visitors arrive in the city by train, making it an ideal weekend break.

Antwerp is said to boast character, with dozens of food stalls lining the streets serving up local dishes from steaming pots of moules to a bucket of frites.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the city was known for its wealth and status of citizens. This can still be seen today through the Flemish townhouses and cobbled alleyways kept in their original form.

The Cathedral of Our Lady is one of the most popular tourist spots, showcasing a Gothic design with kaleidoscopic stained glass that floods the building with technicolour on sunny days.

There are several museums to choose from, including the Museum Plantin-Morteus and Royal Museum of Fine Arts. The artwork includes Hans Memling’s Portrait of a Man with a Roman Medal and Jean Fouquet’s Madonna Surrounded by Seraphim and Cherubim.

If you visit on a Saturday, the Exotic Market is a must-visit spot, showcasing street food from around the world as well as Belgian classics like stroopwafels and croquettes.

The cruise arrives in the city at 9.30am and departs at 5.30pm – giving you plenty of time to explore all that the city has to offer.
