The UK seaside city named one of the cheapest city breaks in Europe | Travel News | Travel

Blackpool has been named one of the most affordable destinations in Europe, according to new research that pits the UK’s favourite seaside resorts against some of the continent’s biggest holiday hotspots. The study, carried out by credit card brand Aqua, analysed the cost of a one-week trip for two adults in 10 popular destinations, factoring in travel, accommodation, eating out, drinks, and local transport.

Blackpool came eighth overall in the rankings, with an average return travel cost of just £39.76, making it one of the cheapest to reach on the entire list. A week’s stay in three-star accommodation costs around £574, while an average dinner for two comes in at £14 per person. Visitors can expect to pay £3.25 for a pint and £2.20 for a single trip on local transport.

The seaside city was the only UK urban destination to make the top 10 alongside other affordable picks such as Budapest, Prague, and Porto.

The research found that London, by contrast, is Europe’s most expensive city break, with weekly accommodation for two averaging £1,241, dinners costing around £20 each, and pints priced at an eye-watering £6.20.

Blackpool’s ranking reflects its enduring appeal as a budget-friendly getaway, combining low costs with classic attractions.

From the iconic Blackpool Tower and historic tramway to its award-winning beaches, amusement parks, and lively entertainment scene, the city offers plenty to do without stretching holiday budgets.

Local tourism operators have long promoted Blackpool as an affordable alternative to pricier UK and European destinations, particularly during peak summer months when travel abroad can soar in price.

The town’s wealth of guesthouses, budget hotels, and self-catering options keeps accommodation costs competitive, while its compact layout makes exploring on foot or via its vintage trams both easy and inexpensive.

So holidaymakers don’t need to travel far or spend a fortune to enjoy a memorable week away.

With its mix of nostalgia, attractions, and value for money, Blackpool proves that you can get a full holiday experience for a fraction of the cost of other European breaks.
