This Samsung Galaxy phone is less than £160 for a very limited time

Samsung is making a splash today at an event in San Francisco where we expect to see the Galaxy S26 range announced, likely with prices that will spill well over £1,000. If, your budget for smartphone shopping is a little lower, we’ve spotted a solid Samsung saving that you might want to take advantage of.

Right now over at Amazon you can pick up the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G for £159.99 in a limited time deal, which means we don’t know how long this special price will last. If you go for it, it’ll save you £40 on the phone’s £199.99 RRP.

Though Samsung’s Galaxy A phones are less powerful under the hood than the pricey S series, you get a lot of bang for your buck for £159.99 here.

The phone has a similar design to the S series, with three vertically aligned camera sensors. These are a 50MP main lens, which is good to see at this price, the 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro lenses are, honestly, mainly for show – don’t expect them to take great shots. But the main lens will have you covered.

What you’re getting here is a dependable Android phone that nails the basics, if that;s all you need. If your main smartphone activities are calling, texting, WhatsApp, online banking, light games such as Candy Crush, Netflix and video calls to family and friends then it’ll be more than enough phone for you. It just won’t feel as snappy and responsive as phones that cost five or six times as much – as you’d expect.

There’s a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling, plus 128GB storage and a microSD card slot if you need to expand that storage further. YOu even get IP54 dust and water resistance so this phone can handle a splash from the pool or a light rain shower, while a 5,000mAh battery could keep this thing ticking over for two days on a charge with light use. The beauty of less powerful smartphones is they don’t drain the battery as fast.

Perhaps best of all, Samsung says it will give six years of software updates to the Galaxy A17 5G from its launch in August 2025, which means you’ll still be getting Android and security fixes well into 2031 if you buy the phone today.

That’s industry-best software support for a phone of this price. Even the Galaxy S25 and Pixel 10, phones that cost £799, only get an extra year with seven years overall.

The Galaxy A17 5G won’t win any performance awards, but for £159.99 its a great deal on a dependable Android phone that should last you for several years.
