Tottenham job conditions for Roberto De Zerbi whose feelings are clear | Football | Sport
Roberto De Zerbi remains linked with the manager’s job at Tottenham Hotspur, with his previous remarks suggesting such an appointment might be feasible. Spurs are currently in a relegation battle in the Premier League, though they do have a Champions League last-16 fixture against Atletico Madrid approaching.
Igor Tudor was brought in by Tottenham as caretaker manager for the remainder of the campaign, but has suffered defeat in all three Premier League matches since taking charge in north London. This run of results leaves Spurs sitting in 16th position in the top-flight table and merely one point clear of the relegation zone.
De Zerbi’s name emerged in The Telegraph’s report, which suggested that Tudor’s position at Tottenham is uncertain, with the ex-Brighton manager identified as a possible replacement.
The 46-year-old has remained without a club since departing Marseille earlier this year, and was strongly linked with the Tottenham job prior to Tudor’s appointment.
The report indicates that De Zerbi is being considered for the Tottenham managerial role from the summer onwards, but only if the club retain their Premier League status and escape relegation.
Following De Zerbi’s departure from Brighton nearly two years ago, he expressed his thoughts about a potential Premier League return, with Manchester United previously amongst those reportedly considering an appointment.
“There isn’t any club – no one offered [anything]. At the moment, nothing,” De Zerbi told Match of the Day at the end of the 2023/24 season.
“I hope to work in the Premier League again. I don’t know where or when. But it was an honour to work in the Premier League.”
This wasn’t the sole occasion De Zerbi has discussed his future and speculation linking him with Tottenham, having previously addressed such rumours whilst at Brighton.
“I have a long contract and I am happy to work here [Brighton],” De Zerbi said during his time on the south coast. “I’m enjoying working with these players, and I’m pleased with their performance. I cannot ask for more from them.
“We have a dream, and we know very well [that can] write a new history for the club. For us, that is very important and a very nice challenge.”
