Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is reaping the rewards of a ‘major change’ he has implemented since taking over in north London. Reshuffling the captaincy group, which included snubbing three of last season’s senior figures, has left Spurs in a healthy position going into their clash with Sheffield United.

Postecoglou’s side headed into the international break off the back of three straight Premier League wins. A comfortable home victory over Manchester United and a Burnley thrashing both featured on that run, with Spurs’ improved form catching the eye.

The former Celtic boss has not been afraid to shake things up since taking the reins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. One of his boldest commitments is a complete switch-up of the club’s leadership group.

According to The Athletic, last season’s quartet included Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Hugo Lloris and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

While Kane joined Bayern Munich in a big-money deal during the summer, the latter trio have all been snubbed by Postecoglou in favour of Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Cristian Romero.

The manager’s shift has been so drastic that Hojbjerg, Dier and Lloris have played a combined 67 minutes of Premier League football so far this season. Worryingly for them, a string of impressive performances have been a source of major encouragement for fans.

And that certainly bodes well for their upcoming clash with Sheffield United. The Blades will have the bit between their teeth for the visit to north London, having only picked up one point from four Premier League games thus far.

Spurs’ leadership trio are all in line to feature. Over the international break, Maddison was given rare game time with England and Romero was referred to as the ‘best defender in the world’ by Lionel Messi.
