Police swarmed a street in a quiet UK town after the body of a man was discovered by a member of the public. The tragic discovery was made on Christmas Eve in Witham. 

Essex Police headed to Mill Lane during the morning of December 24 following reports of a concern for welfare. A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers were called to Mill Lane in Witham this morning (Wednesday 24 December) to reports of concern for welfare. Emergency services attended following the call from a member of public at just after 9am. 

“Sadly, the body of man was found, and he was declared deceased at the scene.”

The death of the man, police added, is “not being treated as suspicious”.

His next of kin, the spokesperson also said, have been informed, and a file will now be prepared for the coroner. 

A large police presence was spotted in the area after officers were called to attend the scene, EssexLive reports. Police has since left the area.  

Locals took to the Essex Live Facebook page to share their condolences.

A social media user commented: “Heartbreaking news. My thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends.”

Another said: “Rip to the man involved.”
