Travel expert ‘blown away’ by ‘best city break in years’ | Europe | Travel
For those seeking something a bit different for their next city break, one travel expert has pinpointed an unexpected continental destination worthy of consideration. Em, who provides budget travel guidance via TikTok, revealed she recently experienced her “best city break in years”, capturing the trip in a video. “It’s not somewhere you would expect,” she explained, showcasing footage of the European destination’s charming waterways and architecture.
“I booked a couple of nights here at the end of a longer trip as I was flying out of the airport here and I figured I might as well explore.” Travelling alone, Em reported feeling totally safe whilst navigating the city’s vibrant streets, lined with numerous bars and restaurants.
“There was plenty to do – it is such a modern and well-organised city – I would say it almost gives Scandinavian vibes, but is still budget-friendly,” she added. Em additionally commended the complimentary electric taxi service operating within the historic quarter, whilst the destination also offers free public Wi-Fi access.
“There were water fountains everywhere,” Em went on. “And of course when I visited it almost reminded me of Amsterdam with all the outdoor restaurants and cafes by the canal.”
Furthermore, Em observed it was evident local authorities had “really invested in the city’s public spaces.” The city also has a lovely castle with stunning views, which you can also visit for free,” she said.
“The country as a whole is really underrated and you can easily do a day trip – or extend your existing trip – and visit some of the nearby lakes.”
Em concluded by highlighting the “very affordable and easy to use” public transport network, though advised visitors to carry cash if they plan to use it.
The destination? “If you haven’t guessed already, it is Ljubljana, which is the capital of Slovenia,” she finally revealed. “I had an amazing few days here and the city really blew me away. It has everything I love about a city and it is now firmly on my list of places to revisit.”
Meanwhile, Ljubljana’s official tourism website describes the city: “One could say it’s like a chameleon – always the right colour for every mood. A city tailored to human needs, cosmopolitan for work, yet green and pleasant for relaxation.
“With 50,000 students, it has a youthful vibe, and its rich offer of cultural and sports events, along with a multitude of experiences, ensures that you simply cannot be bored in the city.”
And according to the website, the Slovenian capital is:
