US President Donald Trump attacked Sir Keir Starmer again on Wednesday doing a brutal impersonation of the Prime Minister. Trump briefly mentioned King Charles’ upcoming visit to the US this month before quickly turning back to Keir Starmer, who Trump has previously criticised for his response to the Iran war. Trump adopted a weak sounding voice to imitate Keir Starmer, saying that the UK was unable to send British forces to the region.

The US president said he had asked whether the UK could send its “two old, worn-out aircraft carriers” to help secure the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said he responded stating: “I said you’re the Prime Minister, you don’t have to.” According to Trump, Starmer then said: “No, no, no, I have to ask my team. My team has to meet. We’re meeting next week.”

By that point, the “war might be over”, the president told guests at the White House.

These comments by Donald Trump, made during the administration’s Easter lunch which was a closed event came to light after being shared by the White House on YouTube. The video was later deleted.

The US President also mocked French President Emmanuel Macron saying that his “wife treats him very badly.”

He said: “I called up France, Macron, whose wife treats him extremely badly and he’s still recovering from the right to the jaw.”

The US president was alluding to a May 2025 clip that seemed to show Brigitte Macron shoving the French president’s face during a visit to Vietnam. Macron later dismissed the footage as part of a disinformation effort, insisting the moment had been taken out of context and describing it as “just joking, as we often do.”

Trump continued: “And I said, ‘Emmanuel, we’d love to have some help in the Gulf even though we’re setting records on knocking out bad people and knocking out ballistic missiles. We’d love to have some help. If you could, could you please send ships immediately.”

Then, in a fake French accent to give Macron’s alleged answer, he said: “‘No no no, we cannot do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is won.

“I said, ‘No no, I don’t need after the war is won Emmanuel.

“So I learned about NATO – NATO won’t be there if we ever have the big one, you know what I mean by ‘the big one.'”

Trump attacked NATO allies for not joining the war against Iran. He said the US “has some very bad allies in NATO”.

He added: “We spent trillions on dollars on NATO and then when we need them, which we never do. We didn’t need them here either. To be honest, I was really asking because I wanted to see what they’d do. We blasted the hell out of Iran and the last thing I needed was NATO stepping in our way because they’re a piper tiger.”

The conflict with Iran began on February 28 when the United States and Israeli forces launched coordinated air strikes against targets in Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage through which around 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas flows, has now effectively been blocked due to the war.
