Trump lashes out at Sadiq Khan AGAIN as he reveals ‘real reason people vote for him’ | Politics | News

Donald Trump has lashed out at Sir Sadiq Khan again, linking votes for London’s mayor to immigration. The US President described Sir Sadiq as a “disaster” with a “totally different ideology” to that which Mr Trump said he should have.

He told Politico: “And he gets elected because so many people have come in. They vote for him now because you know, it’s like… it’s uh, one of those things. But I hate what’s happened to London, and I hate what’s happened to Paris. I hate when I see it.”

His remarks were made in a wide-ranging interview in which the leader of the US berated European counterparts amid wrangling between the United States and Europe over how to end the war in Ukraine.

Mr Trump also used the interview to reignite his long-running feud with London’s Labour mayor, who was elected for a third term in 2024 after securing 1,088,225 votes on a turnout of 40.5%.

The president told reporters on Air Force One as he returned to the US from his state visit to Britain that he didn’t want Sir Sadiq at the state banquet hosted by King Charles.

He then described Sir Sadiq as being “among the worst mayors in the world”, saying he was a “disaster” on immigration and crime in the capital was “through the roof”.

Mr Trump used a speech at the United Nations to accuse the mayor of steering London towards sharia law.

Sir Sadiq hit back at Mr Trump, accusing him of showing himself to be racist, sexist, misogynistic and Islamophobic.

He told ITV News London in September: “People will be wondering what it is about this Muslim mayor who leads a liberal, multicultural, successful city, that means I seem to be living rent free inside Donald Trump’s head.”

The mayor of London added: “I think I’ve got squatters rights, the amount of time I spend in Donald Trump’s head. I’m just hoping he doesn’t send me an invoice for all the time I’m in there.”

The row between Sir Sadiq and Mr Trump dates back as far as 2015 when Sir Sadiq criticised Mr Trump for suggesting Muslims should be banned from travelling to the United States.

Asked by Politico if Mr Trump’s criticism of European leaders was “tough love” or an attempt to push allies towards his position, he said no.

Mr Trump said: “I think they’re weak, but I also think that they want to be so politically correct… I think they don’t know what to do. Europe doesn’t know what to do.”

He added that he wanted to see a strong Europe and a crackdown on immigration, which he claimed was fuelling crime in countries including Sweden and Germany.

The Mayor of London’s office has been approached for comment.
