TUI hand luggage rules for flights in 2025 and extra charges | Travel News | Travel

TUI is a popular airline among UK holidaymakers as it offers both flight-only deals alongside package holidays.

The airline operates from more than 20 airports in the UK, with flights available to over 100 destinations around the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and North America. If you’ve booked a flight with TUI this year then it’s important to be aware of the hand luggage rules before you go so you know exactly what size bag to take and aren’t stung with any extra charges.

TUI’s luggage policy says passengers can take one piece of hand luggage per person – excluding infants. This bag can be up to 10kg and must be no larger than 55 x 40 x 20cm and must be stored in the seat in front of you.

Passengers can also take one small personal item, such as laptop bag or a handbag, onboard, with maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 20cm. The same hand luggage rules apply if you’ve just booked a flight only, rather than a package holiday.

TUI explains: “If you’re just booking a TUI Airways flight, all adults and children aged 2 and over can take one piece of hand luggage for the cabin for free. Each piece of hand luggage can weigh up to 10kg, with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm.

“As well as one piece of hand luggage, you can bring one small personal item. This includes things like a laptop bag, a backpack, or a handbag that’s small enough to fit under the seat in front of you with maximum dimensions 40x30x20cm.

“You must be able to lift your hand luggage into the overhead storage compartments yourself. Children aged under 2 don’t have a hand luggage allowance.”

If your bag is larger than the hand luggage allowance dimensions you’ll have to check-in your bag. TUI allows a bag up to 20kg per person and 10kg for passengers under the age of two.

If you’re flying on a TUI Airways flight, the following holidays all come with a 25kg luggage allowance:

  • TUI BLUE
  • Sensatori by TUI BLUE
  • Holiday Villages
  • A La Carte
  • TUI River Cruise package

But if you arrive at the airport with luggage that is in excess of your allowance then you’ll be hit with extra charges and these fees may vary depending on the season you’re travelling.

TUI says: “For package bookings that include a checked-in luggage allowance and for flight only bookings that have already added a checked-in allowance:

  • Short and mid-haul flights (less than seven hours) – £14 per additional kilo
  • Long-haul flights (over seven hours) – £18 per additional kg

For flight only bookings who have not added a checked-in luggage allowance:

  • Short and mid-haul flights (less than seven hours): £55 per 15kg bag* and £14 per additional kilo.
  • Long-haul flights (over seven hours): £75 per 15kg bag* and £18 per additional kilo.”
