UK plastic bag maker crashes into administration | UK | News

A Derby-based producer of polythene bags and films has entered administration, reportedly putting up to 50 jobs at risk. The company which has been operating since 1995 appointed administrators on March 18. Miles Needham and Andy John of FRP Advisory Trading Limited have been appointed as joint administrators, according to a notice on The London Gazette, the UK’s official public record since 1665.

Reform Polythene, based at Chester Park, Alfreton Road, has long supplied a range of industries, including food processing, industrial, pharmaceutical, and medical sectors, with both food and non-food polythene products. The administration notice temporarily halts creditor action against the business, giving the company breathing space to explore restructuring or sale options.

Reform Polythene specialises in the extrusion, printing, and conversion of both food-grade and non-food polythene products.

Its portfolio includes food-grade bags, sheeting, and liners, as well as standard polythene bags and sheeting, clear plastic bags, polythene sheeting rolls, heavy-duty sheeting, and tear-off rolls of polythene bags.

The company is also known for its thin-film technology and eco-friendly products, which incorporate 30% recycled consumer waste and all of its polythene products are fully recyclable.

Founded in Derby, a city with a rich manufacturing heritage and home to major companies such as Rolls-Royce, Toyota, and Bombardier, Reform Polythene has spent over three decades serving the UK, Ireland, and other markets.

The future of the business remains uncertain as the administrators assess its financial position.

The Daily Express has contacted Reform Polythene Limited for comment.
