UK tourists forced to pay entry fee in Venice on these 2025 dates | Travel News | Travel
UK tourists face being charged a daily fee to access the Italian city of Venice on certain dates this year. The popular holiday hotspot, which is spread across more than 100 small islands on a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, has introduced an Access Fee that is charged to visitors as an alternative to Tourist Tax.
The fee must be paid by anyone who enters the Ancient City of the Municipality of Venice or the other minor islands of the Venetian Lagoon – but only on specific days in 2025. It costs five Euros (around £4.25) if you pay at least four days in advance of your visit, or 10 Euros (around £8.50) if you pay in the three days before your visit.
The Città di Venezia explains: “When you arrive in Venice on the days when the reservation is scheduled you will find security personnel at the access points to the city. Don’t worry, you will see everything perfectly marked and there will also be spaces for requesting information.”
The charge is due to anyone visiting Venice’s lagoon city on more than 50 dates – mostly weekends – in the months of April, May, June and July this year, between 8.30am until 4.00pm. The days when the Access Contribution fee is required include all of the following:

The Città di Venezia adds: “For all those who are not subjects belonging to the exclusion and exemption conditions, for the year 2025, the advance booking incentive has been introduced which provides for the payment of €5.00 only for those who pay the Access Fee within the fourth last day (inclusive) before the day of access. Otherwise, for those who pay the Access Fee in the 3 days before the day of access, the amount is equal to €10.00.”
