It’s getting to that time of year when lots of people are travelling more and jetting off on holiday, but UK tourists have been warned about the length of airport queues. While visiting airports can often be quite stressful, some have said things may be about to get worse, as a popular airport is claimed to have been hit with lengthy delays.
Ashleigh Wylie is one tourist who alerted people to the travel issue recently, as she shared footage of the “horror” scenes on TikTok. She said anyone planning a holiday to the popular destination should expect to experience “hell”.
It’s not the only time people have been advised to be prepared for a different travel experience either. Back in February, tourists were also told they could see potentital four-hour delays at some airports.
Ashleigh shared advice to anyone visiting Tenerife South Airport, and she wished “good luck” to those travelling home. She added: “Make sure you get there early. We thought we beat the rumours after we got through security then walked out of duty free to this!”
She then shared a clip of the queues, and they were huge. Over the top of the video, she included a voiceover which described the situation as “hell” and “horror” to sum up her thoughts clearly.

The video has since been viewed thousands of times, and several people were quick to comment. They shared all sorts of views.
One person replied, saying: “Non EU queue, EU queue is fine.” Another added: “I’m put off going to Tenerife now. That looks horrendous.”
A third seemed to share a similar experience, as they said: “Never again do I want to experience this. The emotions going through my mind yesterday was horrendous.”
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “We had the same issue yesterday! Nightmare.” One more also noted: “Love Tenerife, hate the airport.”
However, it’s clear not all travellers have had the same experience at the airport. Others also claimed they had no issues when travelling recently.
Detailing a contrasting experience, a different traveller shared: “Just got through security in about 10 minutes. Think it all depends on the day you fly.”
Someone else added: “Flew back Friday evening back to Gatwick at around 6.50pm. Got through within 10 minutes. No problems at all.”
Another also noted: “UK flights come in batches. Just look at departures and avoid the big waves of UK flights.”
One more also chimed in with: “We arrived Thursday morning and left Sunday midday last weekend, and we had no queues. It’s just luck of the draw how many flights are there at the same time.”
Tenerife South Airport has been contacted for comment. It noted the airport has provided the necessary infrastructure, but the authority over the management of the border control depends on the Ministry of the Interior.
