Viktor Gyokeres ‘furious’ and drops Man Utd and Arsenal transfer hint | Football | Sport
Viktor Gyokeres appears to have dropped a major transfer hint as Manchester United and Arsenal are left on red alert. The Sporting striker netted 54 goals in 52 matches across all competitions last season, with a move away from the Portuguese outfit having been touted.
Both Arsenal and United are believed to be interested in the 27-year-old, who is believed to have a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting this summer. It’s claimed that offers above £58million (€70m) will be considered, even though there’s a release clause of £84m (€100m) in his contract. Although, according to Portuguese outlet Record, Gyokeres is said to be “furious” having believed Sporting would’ve agreed to sell him for an initial fee of £50m instead.
However, in the latest twist, Gyokeres seems to have pointed towards a summer exit after removing any mention of Sporting from his Instagram account. Previously, his bio had referenced the Portuguese champions, but that has since been taken down.
It suggests that Gyokeres will be looking to sign for a new club during the off-season, with United having made an initial approach for the marksman. Ruben Amorim is a huge admirer of Gyokeres, having been the manager who brought him to the Lisbon-based outfit from Coventry City in 2023.
United are in the market for a striker, even though they signed both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the previous two summer windows. Hojlund, who has scored 26 times in 95 matches for the Red Devils, is adamant his future remains with United, despite talk of a premature exit.
He told Danish outlet Bold: I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. I’m looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I’m fully dedicated to the project that’s underway. I know I can’t get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United until 2030.”
United have already put pen to paper on a deal for Matheus Cunha, who arrived as part of a £62.5m deal from Wolves. He became the 20-time Premier League champions’ first signing of the summer window, with Bryan Mbeumo tipped to follow suit.
The Old Trafford side have already seen one bid for Mbeumo knocked back, but confidence remains high that United will secure the attacker’s signature. Talk of a hijack from Tottenham Hotspur surfaced last week, however, it’s believed Mbeumo has his heart set on joining United from Brentford this summer.
