Woman ‘shot in leg’ as armed police swoop on London neighbourhood | UK | News

A woman in her twenties was shot in the leg as armed police swooped on a London neighbourhood.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to the Stamford Hill area of north London at around 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 14.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed no one has been arrested as detectives continue to search for the shooter.

The woman was treated at the scene before being conveyed to a major trauma centre in east London, police said.

Shaye Fischer at Shomrim, the local Jewish security and neighbourhood watch group told MailOnline the woman was an “innocent bystander” hit in a “drive-by shooting”.

He said: “Yes it was a drive by shooting from what we are aware. Two [cars] trying to shoot each other and an innocent by-stander got shot.”

Social media footage showed roads cordoned off as crowds of onlookers stood watching on.

A Met Police spokesman told MyLondon: “Police were called at about 7.40pm on Tuesday, May 14 to reports of a shooting near Reizel Close, Stamford Hill. Officers, including specialist firearms officers, and London Ambulance Service attended.

“A woman in her 20s was found with a gunshot injury to her leg. She was taken to an east London hospital – we await to hear updates on her condition.

“Offices are working to establish the circumstance of this incident. No arrests have been made at this time. A crime scene is in place.”
