January is a gloomy month, and early weather reports indicate that the New Year is set to be bitterly cold in addition to the usual grey skies. No doubt many of us will be desperate for a bit of sun while we wait for spring.
Luckily, getting away for some sunshine doesn’t have to cost a fortune. A number of holiday companies have already launched their New Year sales, among them is loveholidays who are offering discounted packages with low deposits and pay monthly options. If you’re looking to go away in January, they have many deals for the sunny and ever-popular Canary Islands, and here are just a few that won’t break the bank.
Tenerife
Tenerife is generally the Canary Island with the warmest weather and most sunshine in January, with daytime highs of 21C and about six to seven hours of sunshine. So it’s not surprising it’s usually the most popular of the islands too. It can sometimes be difficult to find deals in the peak winter season, but there are a few to be found for January dates.
Stay in the Sun Holidays Hotel for seven nights, with flights from Liverpool from £239 per person. This price is based on a January 27 departure and two sharing. While the hotel is only one-star, it has good reviews, and is just a five-minute walk from a beach. It’s also well located to explore Puerto de la Cruz, a historic port town on the north coast of Tenerife that’s home to the stunning Lago Martiánez seawater pools.
A package departing January 8 offers seven nights at the Playa De Los Roques, a hotel with a clifftop location in Los Realejos. Departing from London Southend airport, this holiday starts at just £259 per person and includes easyJet flights.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria has a similar climate to Tenerife and is known for its natural beauty and volcanic landscapes. A popular area is Playa del Ingles on the southern coast, which is famous for its huge sandy beach. For £289, loveholidays offer a package flying from Edinburgh and staying at Caroni in Playa del Ingles.
While these apartments are basic, there are only 10 in the block, so you aren’t sharing the pool with lots of people. It’s just a short walk to the beach, and you’re in the heart of this lively resort with shopping centres and a huge selection of bars and restaurants.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote tends to be one of the more expensive Canary Islands to visit, as there are lots of upmarket hotels and accommodation. However, you can still enjoy this pretty island known for its unique architecture and black sand beaches without spending a fortune.
Deals include a seven-night stay at Lanzarote Paradise in the popular resort of Costa Teguise for £299 per person. This includes flights from Birmingham on Ryanair. Costa Teguise is on the east coast of the island and known for its sandy, sunny beaches and family attractions such as water parks and an aquarium.
Alternatively you can stay in Puerto del Carmen at the San Marcial Apartments for £319 per person. This deal is a seven-night package including a one bedroom apartment and flights from Bristol departing January 25. Puerto del Carmen is one of Lanzarote’s most popular resorts thanks to its long beach with a lively promenade full of restaurants and shops. It’s also a great place for water sports and has a charming old town area that has a buzzing atmosphere in the evenings.
Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura also has some inexpensive options for those looking for January sun. One of the best is a week in Cotillo House, set in a quiet fishing village, for just £279 per person. This small hotel is set right on the beach and has a rooftop pool for amazing sea views. Flights from London Luton on easyJet are included in the price.
All prices are subject to availability and can change.
